Stokes recalled for his own "wellbeing" - Bayliss

Ben Stokes and Trevor Bayliss

England have recalled Ben Stokes to starting XI for the third Test against India at Trent Bridge, captain Joe Root announced Friday.

"Ben is desperate to get back playing cricket".

Bayliss told reporters at Trent Bridge on Thursday that Stokes had already apologised to his team-mates, in New Zealand earlier this year.

Stokes replaces left-arm swing bowler Sam Curran, England's man-of-the-match in their 31-run win in the first Test at Edgbaston earlier this month, with Root saying it was "probably one of the most hard decisions I've had to make as captain".

"He is desperate to get out there and wants to put in performances", England captain Joe Root said on the eve of the match.

"I sat him down yesterday, just me and him, and asked him where he was at".

On Tuesday, Stokes was found not guilty of affray following a fight outside a nightclub in the Clifton area of Bristol nearly 11 months ago. Its about us as a squad delivering over five games and on this occasion Sam is unfortunate to miss out. He felt he was ready to play.

The third Test of the five-match series starts at Trent Bridge tomorrow.

Australian Bayliss, who reported a final call is yet to be made on whether Stokes returns to a winning side this weekend, acknowledged a public apology should and probably would be forthcoming.

Bayliss, who has been England's head coach since 2015, said the Stokes case - combined with disciplinary issues during England's tour of Australia last winter - had prompted the team to reflect on its behaviour.

Ben Stokes has been named in England's squad for the next Test.

Bayliss said he would assess Stokes before deciding whether the Durham player would play in the third match of the five-Test series, which England lead 2-0. I think some people would see that as the easy option, to leave Sam out.

"What he's done so far has been nothing short of high class, so that's a testament to how well we've been playing and is a really good sign for this group moving forward".
