Shots Fired at Gate of US Embassy in Turkey

Police teams were searching for the assailants, who fled in a white auto after the attack, CNN Turk said.

"We can confirm a security incident took place at the U.S. Embassy early this morning".

Six shots were fired at the embassy early on Monday, with three bullets hitting the iron gate and window wall, the Ankara governor's office said.

The US officials and police confirmed that no one hurt in the attack.

Turkey's interior minister said police and intelligence units were searching for the vehicle and suspects, stressing their motive would be established only after they are apprehended.

The attack comes amid tensions rising between Ankara and the United States over the detention of Andrew Brunson, an American pastor, in Turkey over terror-related charges. "We have no reports of any injuries and we are investigating the details", said David Gainer, the embassy spokesman.

The US mission is closed this week as Turkey celebrates the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. "We thank the Turkish national police for their rapid response", he said.
