Seahawks remain in tunnel during national anthem

NFL preseason Bucs position battles to watch vs. Dolphins

Across the NFL, players followed former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in kneeling during the national anthem last season in protest of social injustice and racial inequality.

Despite that cooling-off declaration, Miami Dolphins wide receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson kneeled during before their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Giants opened their preseason at home against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, and Big Blue defensive lineman A.J. Francis raised his fist at the end of the anthem, NJ.com reported.

Before the Eagles-Steelers game, Malcolm Jenkins and De'Vante Bausby raised a fist during the playing of the anthem.

The rule would have fined teams whose players protested during the anthem, but allowed the teams the choice to wait in the locker room or tunnel while the anthem was performed.

Several Jacksonville Jaguars players were not on the field for the playing of the anthem before their preseason game against the New Orleans Saints, according to The Florida Times Union.

A dozen games were played Thursday night.

The Dolphins players weren't the only ones to renew their protests as the preseason began Thursday night.

The gestures from Stills, Wilson and Quinn come just a day after the Dolphins organization submitted a nine-page disciplinary document to the National Football League that included a section called "Proper Anthem Conduct", according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The debate ratcheted up a notch in 2017 when US President Donald Trump said kneeling players showed "total disrespect for our great country".

The new policy was met with a lot of disdain from the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), who stated that they were not consulted prior to the NFL's decision being publicized.
