Ronan Farrow's former producer says NBC News tried to block Weinstein story

Ronan Farrow Weinstein Story Was Killed By “Very Highest Levels Of NBC” – Report

Farrow ended up taking the story to the New Yorker, for which he won a Pulitzer Prize, and Weinstein is now facing criminal charges, but McHugh said NBC impeded reporting he was doing with Farrow in "a massive breach of journalistic integrity".

When Farrow left NBC News previous year, he took the Harvey Weinstein story with him, and he later went on to win a Pulitzer Prize for his stories which have played a key role in the MeToo movement.

However, an NBC News spokesperson vehemently denied that was the case, saying the scoop simply wasn't ready to run.

News says two of its former journalists are "outright lying" that the network tried to block an explosive report about Harvey Weinstein.

In a separate story published Thursday by the Daily Beast, the website, citing multiple unnamed sources, reported that NBC News general counsel Susan Weiner made multiple phone calls to Farrow, threatening to smear him if he continued his reporting on Weinstein.

McHugh also told the Times that three days before he and Farrow were going to Los Angeles for the interview, "I was ordered to. stand down on the story altogether". "Externally, I had Weinstein associates calling me repeatedly".

In a statement to the Times responding to McHugh's claims, Farrow praised his former producer and offered words of support.

New details have emerged about NBC News' reported efforts to stop Ronan Farrow from producing his bombshell exposé on decades of sexual assault allegations against Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein. "NBC disagreed because, unfortunately, he did not yet have a single victim of - or witness to - misconduct by Weinstein who was willing to be identified", the statement said.

McHugh said a year ago he and Farrow were set to interview one of Weinstein's accusers but were told not to-and to drop the story. "One time it even happened when we were in the room". Oppenheim reportedly told colleagues that NBC News chairman Andrew Lack and NBC's senior vice president for communications Mark Kornblau were ultimately to blame. But when Farrow gained possession of a tape of Weinstein talking about groping the model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, NBC still did not embrace the story.
