New Ford Mustang Cobra Jet is the fastest drag racing Mustang ever

Bow Before The 8sec 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang Cobra Jet

Production is strictly limited to 68 cars, a reference to the original model's debut in 1968. If that's true or not we'll all see during the 2018 Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend, where the auto will have its first public outing. Nonetheless, it is said that it can cover quarter of mile in mid eight seconds whereas it will have a top speed in excess of 150 miles per hour. The vehicle will be available exclusively in Race Red or Oxford White.

Ford debuted the 50th Anniversary Cobra Jet during the Woodward Dream Cruise in MI this week. And unlike the Dodge Demon, it cares not for the sanitisation that comes with being "road legal". The company is being understandably coy about the actual power output, but with a Whipple Gen 5 twin-screw, 3.0-liter supercharger atop its 5.2-liter Coyote engine, this snake is definitely packing plenty of venom.

Power is provided by a unique 5.2-liter V8 engine which is based on the familiar 5.0-liter V8 that resides in the Mustang GT.

Strange Engineering has provided the low-drag brake system to haul everything down to a safe stop, aided by a standard parachute, required for cars expected to top 150 miles per hour in the quarter-mile.

The 50-year history of the Cobra Jet. The new Cobra Jet is not street legal and is much more limited to 68 models, but once horsepower ratings are revealed it will add fuel to the fire in the ultimate horsepower wars.

There's also a low-drag disc brake setup from Strange Engineering, a National Hot Rod Association-approved roll cage, a stripped-out racing interior with a digital instrument display and Sparco steering wheel, FIA-compliant seats, and racing wheels with anniversary badging.
