Mark Zuckerberg personally engaged in banning Alex Jones from Facebook

Vimeo scrubs Alex Jones from streaming service

This makes Vimeo - a video uploading and sharing service similar to YouTube - the latest platform to remove Infowars content.

A company spokesperson told BI Sunday that some of Jones' recent content violated Vimeo's ban on discrimination and hateful speech. Jones has been trying to recoup some of his losses by spreading unhinged theories, promoting his website, mobile app and encouraging listeners to purchase the diet supplements and survivalist gear.

Vimeo banned InfoWars then removed all of its videos.

InfoWars, Jones's right-wing conspiracy website, branded the "coordinated effort" a "purge" created to censor the site's provocative messages.

But this week, CNN compiled a long list of Jones' posts in which he claimed victims of mass shootings were engaged in some kind of false-flag operation, called Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg a Nazi, smeared LGBTQ people and Muslims and posted an apparent video of a child being abused with the caption "How to Prevent Liberalism: A Public Service Announcement".

Users of the microblogging site have criticised the decision, arguing that Twitter is "protecting the hate, violence and bigotry" of Jones and his associated accounts.

His InfoWars site picked up 5.8 million new subscribers in 48 hours, Jones claims in an interview with the Daily Mail, according to New American. Twitter, on the other hand, is yet to remove Jones or InfoWars from its platform.

The video platform went on to say that between Thursday and Friday last week, approximately 50 hours of InfoWars content was uploaded to Vimeo. For example, Jones has made multiple claims that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a government hoax, prompting lawsuits against the Infowars host.

Facebook said in a tweet last month that banning Infowars" Pages "would be contrary to the basic principles of free speech' after a CNN reporter asked why the firm had allowed Infowars, which had more than 900,000 followers, to continue to operate on its site.
