Car crashes into security barriers outside Parliament: Armed police surround driver

There is no ongoing chase.

A CROWD of pedestrians has been injured after they were hit by a vehicle outside the British Houses of Parliament at Westminster in London. There was no update provided on the people's conditions.

The male driver has been detained and police are investigating.

Police said they could not immediately say whether it was a terrorism-related incident or not.

Streets around Parliament Square, Millbank and Victoria Tower Gardens have been cordoned off as dozens of armed police swooped on the scene.

"We're still trying to piece it together", a spokeswoman said.

Footage on social media showed a handcuffed man being led away by heavily armed police.

Witness Jason Williams spoke to ITV's Good Morning Britain about the incident. A series of ambulances arrived at the scene.

Scotland Yard have said a man has been arrested.

"I was walking on the other side [of the road]. I turned around and I saw a silver vehicle driving very fast close to the railings, maybe even on the pavement", she said.

Westminster Tube Station is also closed nearby after being evacuated.

Masood abandoned his vehicle then stabbed and killed unarmed police constable Keith Palmer before he was shot by armed police in a courtyard outside parliament.
