Kavanaugh Confirmation Hearing to Start Sept. 4

Judge Brett Kavanaugh was nominated on July 9 spurring intense interest in his work as a White House lawyer and with Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr

If Brett Kavanaugh was fit to be on the Supreme Court, Senate Republicans would have no issue releasing his full records. Further, the undisclosed record of his time in the White House might further reveal his judicial philosophy but will go unexamined because Republicans, with Collins' support, are not requesting the documents.

They show that Kavanaugh drafted an "Overall Plan" to colleagues in 1998 providing his thoughts on bringing the independent counsel office's work to a close.

Kavanaugh once helped write the Starr Report, which outlined broad grounds on which to impeach President Clinton for his role in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

White House spokesman Raj Shah praised Grassley for his review of Kavanaugh's career and the upcoming hearings. Democrats have warned that Kavanaugh may be unwilling to protect special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible coordination between President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and Russian Federation.

President Donald Trump's nominee to be the next Supreme Court justice - Judge Brett Kavanaugh - will start his Senate confirmation hearings on September 4, the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley announced Friday.

"He's met dozens of senators who have nothing but positive things to say", Grassley, an Iowa Republican, said in a statement on Friday. Democrats have demanded all the documents from Kavanaugh's time at the White House for review ahead of his confirmation, which Republicans have called a "fishing expedition" and a "delay tactic" for a nominee who some Republicans say some Democrats have no intention of considering. "It's time for the American people to hear directly from Judge Kavanaugh at his public hearing".

The chairman said the committee still expects to receive hundreds of thousands of additional pages of documents.

The Senate panel on Thursday released about 5,700 pages of records on Kavanaugh's work as a White House lawyer during the George W. Bush administration.

Kavanaugh's lengthy paper trail has become a part of a tit-for-tat between Republicans and Democrats in an increasingly tense political battle over his confirmation. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, last month.

"Republicans just announced that they are scheduling a hearing for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh starting on September 4", Harris said. "This is not how the Senate should approve a nominee for a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land", said Sen.

On his time at the White House, Kavanaugh has said, "my five and a half years in the White House - and especially my three years as Staff Secretary for President Bush - were among the most interesting and in many ways among the most instructive".
