Jeremy Corbyn refuses to apologise amid row over Palestinian terrorists wreath

Corbyn should quit as Labour leader over visit to PLO terrorist memorial, says Javid

Pressed on the point, Corbyn answered: "I was present when it was laid".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu joined the chorus of condemnation of British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn on Monday, following the publication of photographs over the weekend that showed Corbyn holding a memorial wreath for the Palestinian terrorists who murdered 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Mr Corbyn had simply replied that a wreath "was indeed laid", adding: "I was present when it was laid".

She added that Mr. Corbyn Marie needs to also recognise that "he can't cavort with terrorists".

The widows of the Israeli athletes said they were "extremely disturbed" by claims about the visit.

After wreaths were laid at the graves of those who died on that day and on the graves of others killed by Mossad agents in Paris in 1991, we moved to the poignant statue in the main avenue of the coastal town of Ben Arous, which was festooned with Palestinian and Tunisian flags.

Mr Corbyn faced ridicule for his insistence that he was "not involved" in the wreath-laying ceremony, which came despite a series of pictures of him holding a large wreath next to the grave of Munich mastermind Salah Khalaf.

A member of the Palestinian terrorist group Black September, which killed 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team, during the 1972 Munich Olympics.

In a letter to the Labour leader, the MP Joan Ryan wrote: "Even if your participation was inadvertent, I would urge you to offer a full and unreserved apology to the families of the victims of Munich".

The reference to Paris is understood to relate to Bseiso, who was killed in the French capital in 1992 in what was believed to be an Israeli assassination, although the country denied involvement and said he had been murdered by a rival PLO faction.

An Israeli airstrike killed 47 people and wounded 65 others on October 1, 1985, according to official sources in Tunisia.

The Labour leader has tried to qualify has participation in the wreath-laying by saying he was not "involved" but merely "present".

He went on to explain that his goal was to replace to "cycle of violence" with a "cycle of dialogue" by honoring all those killed in terrorist incidents. "You can not pursue peace by a cycle of violence, the only way you pursue peace is a cycle of dialogue", Corbyn said.

In a 2016 renewed leadership contest following resignations from his shadow cabinet, Corbyn secured his position as leader with 61.8 percent of the votes from party members.

Corbyn was opposed to Labour adopting a definition of antisemitism which would make comparing current Israeli policy to that of Nazi Germany 'antisemitic.' The party's current stance on antisemitism includes the following statement: "Discourse about worldwide politics often employs metaphors drawn from examples of historic misconduct".

Luciana Berger, parliamentary chair of the Jewish Labour Movement, said: "Being "present" is the same as being involved". "There can never be a "fitting memorial" for terrorists".

A joint editorial published last month by The Jewish Chronicle, Jewish News and Jewish Telegraph that appeared on the front pages of all three papers under the headline "United We Stand" described the Labour Party as the "natural home" for Britain's Jewish community but claimed the party had "seen its values and integrity eroded by Corbynite contempt for Jews and Israel".
