Indian envoy in Pak meets Imran Khan, discusses bilateral ties, terrorism

Imran Khan

This was the first call on Khan by Bisaria and the Indian high commission termed the meeting as "candid" in which Bisaria put forth India's concerns on terrorism and cross border infiltration, according to the text of a statement by the Indian high commission posted on Twitter.

Talking to United States acting Ambassador to Pakistan John F. Hoover who called on him at his Banigala residence on Wednesday, the prime minister-in-waiting said Pakistan and the USA had witnessed many ups and downs in their relationship, which were the outcome of trust deficit between the two countries.

The relations between Pakistan and the USA nosedived this January after President Donald Trump accused Islamabad of giving nothing to Washington but "lies and deceit" and providing "safe haven" to terrorists.

Indian HC Basariya also presented a cricket bat, signed by the Indian team to the former Pakistani legend.

Bisaria said that India was hopeful that the relations with Pakistan would get on a new path.

Pakistan election officials on Friday accepted the "apology" of the country's premier-in-waiting for violating ballot secrecy in the July 25 elections, removing a key hurdle to his becoming prime minister. Khan retired from global cricket after captaining the national team to glory in the 1992 World Cup in Down Under.

The PTI on Monday formally announced Khan as the new Pakistan prime ministerial candidate.

Khan also expressed hope of Indian participation in the upcoming SAARC Summit, scheduled to be held in Islamabad soon.

The Indian high commissioner said that a telephonic conversation between Imran Khan and Indian PM Narendra Modi had a given a hope to both the countries.

Senator Faisal Javed also tweeted that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party led by Khan has invited Indian cricketers Kapil Dev, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sunil Gavaskar to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the cricketer-turned-politician.

Imran Khan and Hoover had exchanged views on Pak-US relations and matters of mutual interest.

Khan's party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), emerged as the single-largest in the general elections held on July 25, winning 117 seats.

Pakistan and the USA have witnessed many ups and downs in their relationship, which were the outcome of trust deficit between the two countries, he said.
