India vs England 2nd Test Day 1

Virat Kohli questions mentality of Indian top order

The visitors' bowling unit impressed, picking 20 wickets for the fourth successive time on the road since the start of the year, but their batting, barring captain Kohli, was a big letdown. India could make changes in the playing XI.

"There must be a clear plan on how to face the first 20-30 balls, and more often than not that plan does not involve aggression", said Kohli, who was extremely watchful against swing king James Anderson, England's all-time leading Test wicket-taker, at Edgbaston. He also amassed 9779 runs in 211 ODIs at 58.2 and 2102 runs at 48.8 in 62 T20Is.

The first morning at the "home of cricket" turned out to be a damp affair, quite literally, as the first session of the second Test between England and India was washed out due to rain.

This is not the first occasion when Arjun had bowled in Team India nets.

"It doesn't matter whether I get (over) the line or Jinks (Ajinkya Rahane) does or (Murali) Vijay does or KL (Rahul) does or whoever does".

India went down to England in the first Test at Edgbaston by 31 runs and now trail hosts 1-0 in the series.

Will India reinforce their batting order by adding an extra batsman for the Lord's Test.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the second Test as he has not fully recovered from a left thumb injury, bowling coach Bharat Arun confirmed on Tuesday.

For England, they will be missing the services of all-rounder Ben Stokes, which would hurt them as he was among the wickets in the second innings at Edgbaston. They were reduced to 80 for seven in the second innings before young all-rounder Sam Curran's attacking 63 rescued them as they reached 180. Jonny Bairstow (70) and Keaton Jennings (42) did well in their first innings but the likes of Alastair Cook and Jos Buttler failed miserably in both the innings.

A prolonged heatwave in England could prompt the tourists to go with an additional spinner on a dry pitch when the second match of the series gets under way on Thursday. The uncapped Essex seam bowler Jamie Porter again misses out from the squad of 13.

But in the upcoming match, England would like to improve in a few areas along with the catching in the slips to pressurise the Indian batsmen.
