EmuParadise Removes All Its ROMs and ISOs

Massively Popular ROM Site EmuParadise Effectively Shut Down After 18 Years

EmuParadise, a website that has been collecting and uploading ROM files of retro games for the last 18 years, has taken down all ROMs from its website.

Following Nintendo filing lawsuits against LoveROMs and LoveRETRO.co, another well-known ROM site, EmuParadise, has also removed all ROMs from their site, citing potentially disastrous consequences.

Fans of retro video games will no longer be able to download them from EmuParadise.

"It's not worth it for us to risk potentially disastrous consequences", the website's owner posted.

"Through the years I've worked tirelessly with the rest of the EmuParadise team to ensure that everyone could get their fix of retro gaming".

For some, EmuParadise was more than a site with a wide assortment of ROMs.

From receiving threatening letters in the early days to our hosts suddenly shutting down our servers due to complaints, we've seen it all. Today, however, site founder MasJ released a statement titled "EmuParadise is Changing", and explained that in order to avoid continued legal battles and takedown notices that could "risk the futures of our team members who have contributed to the site through the years", EmuParadise ROM downloads would no longer be available. Though the site has always teetered on the edge of legality, retro gamers on a budget have been downloading and playing classic titles from the website for roughly 18 years. But I believe it is the right thing for us at this point of time. "We had been thinking about it for a while but (Nintendo's lawsuit) definitely helped us make the decision", the website's owner told PCMag. But you won't be able to get your games from here for now. The writer of the blog post admits that where the website goes from here is partially up to the users, but they do have "several plans" regarding what happens next.

The site will continue to live on by doing "cool stuff around retro games", but it's not clear what that means - perhaps it will turn into a general retro gaming discussion platform, a marketplace, or something else entirely.
