Courtney Smith's lawyer: My client has never been contacted by Ohio State

Courtney Smith's lawyer says client never contacted by Ohio State to discuss domestic assault allegations

Meyer was put on paid leave last week amid questions about what he knew and did about accusations of abuse made against former assistant Zach Smith in 2015. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is now on paid administrative leave as the school investigates the way the 2015 accusation was handled within the football program.

The attorney emphasized that Courntey is, in fact, 'a victim of domestic violence, ' adding that blaming the victim [is] unacceptable'.

Smith is the wife of former Ohio State and Urban Meyer assistant Zach Smith, who is accused of multiple incidents of domestic abuse. "We believe the University must prioritize the safety and well-being of others above all else".

Outside the gates of Ohio Stadium, more than 100 fans chanted Meyer's name and sang the OSU fight song during a rally that lasted about 20 minutes.

Courtney Smith's attorney said in a statement that Smith will cooperate with the university's investigation.

Zach Smith wasn't charged in either 2009 or 2015. He insisted that he has "always followed proper reporting protocols and procedures" by "elevating the issues to the proper channels" whenever he has "learned of an incident involving a student-athlete, coach or member of our staff".

According to the new report, Smith, who was sacked earlier this summer, received a much-smaller raise following the 2015 season than he did in other years. He also admitted lying to reporters about it.

After Courtney Smith went public last week, claiming she had told Meyer's wife Shelley about the abuse in 2015, the Buckeyes head coach changed his story in a statement. Numerous attendees at the rally had signs blaming ESPN, a media company that has had little role in the original reporting of the saga.

The statement also specified that Courtney Smith has never been paid for interviews over the alleged assaults and that she is "cautiously optimistic" the school will find the truth if "proper reporting protocol was followed upon learning of the ongoing abuse allegations against Zach Smith".
