What President Trump said about May, Brexit, and 'England'

"If they do that, their trade deal with the USA will probably not be made because we have enough difficulty with the European Union", Trump told The Sun.

The president and his wife will attend a dinner, hosted by Mrs May, at Blenheim Palace - the ancestral home of former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill - in the evening. "He obviously likes me, and says very good things about me", Trump said. "Deals that take too long are never good ones", he added.

Anti-Trump protesters lined the roadway leading to the palace near Oxford - but it's unlikely the Trumps even saw them.

"I think it's fine", he said.

"He is thankful for the wonderful welcome from the Prime Minister here in the U.K".

May is facing a rebellion by Brexit hardliners over the proposals, including the resignation of Johnson and Brexit minister David Davis this week, although moderates and big businesses have been supportive. "They voted for us to take back control of our money, our law and our borders and that's exactly what we will do".

President Trump is also scheduled to meet with May Friday for a British military parade, before visiting her country house for bilateral talks. "With a lot of resignations", Trump told a news conference at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels.

The British government on Thursday published its long-awaited Brexit blueprint aimed at restarting stalled talks with the European Union, only for it to be panned by eurosceptics, the City of London and the U.S. president.

The Sun said its interview with Trump was conducted in Brussels, where the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit was held earlier in the week.

Such comments are likely to be seen as unwelcome by Mrs May, who has already faced significant political criticism for hosting Mr Trump.

She added: 'So there's a very serious message behind this but what we're hoping is that on Friday this can be a symbol that people, no matter what they're campaigning on, can get behind, and can feel that this is representing them and all their campaign issues'. "I think he is a great representative for your country".

Asked about Khan, a member of the opposition Labour Party, Trump was highly critical of the London mayor. "I think they agree with me on immigration".

"I think he has done a bad job on crime, if you look, all of the terrible things going on there, with all of the crime that is being brought in", Trump said, later adding that he thinks Khan has insulted him by not being "hospitable to a government that is very important".

Trump insisted, however, that most in the United Kingdom were "delighted" about his visit even as he took a shot at London mayor Sadiq Khan for not taking a harder line on immigration and painted the city as a hub for terrorism.

He continued: "I think he has not been hospitable to a government that is very important".

On Thursday night, hundreds of demonstrators chanted outside the United States ambassador's residence where Trump was staying on the outskirts of London, providing a preview of the large protests expected on Friday.

London mayor Sadiq Khan has given the okay for a giant orange blimp to fly over the streets of the capital.

Trump also criticised May in a press conference in Brussels following a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit there just before flying to London, casting doubt on whether she will deliver on British voters' intentions when they backed leaving the European Union in a 2016 referendum.
