Watch Peter Strzok Claim His Anti-Trump Texts Were Unbiased

FBI agent Peter Strzok arrives for a closed-door hearing on June 27 before the House Judiciary Committee

Strzok said in the hearing, convened by two Republican-controlled House of Representatives committees: "Today's hearing is just another victory notch in (Russian President Vladimir) Putin's belt and another milestone in our enemies' campaign to tear America apart".

Gowdy pressed him on why Mueller removed him from the Russian Federation probe if Strzok was not biased in any way. "Agent Strzok had Donald Trump impeached before he even started investigating him". Trump didn't do anything wrong, it's just one giant witch hunt!

The Strzok-Page saga has also attracted the personal attention of the president, who has frequently commented on the ongoing scandal as evidence of a "witch hunt" against him. "It is not a hoax".

Republicans blame Strzok for trying to stop the Trump campaign from succeeding, but Strzok insists that any bias did not influence his decisions or any decision made by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Strzok had sent Page a link to an article on Trump's criticism of the Khans, adding "F Trump".

Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page has struck a deal to testify this week before Congress for a transcribed interview centered on her conduct during the 2016 presidential election, according to the head of the House Judiciary Committee.

Trump - who mocks Page and Strzok as the "FBI lovers" - blasted Page's decision not to appear Thursday in a tweet, lamenting the "corruption on the other side" and again calling out Attorney General Jeff Sessions to do something about it.

FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok is seated before a hearing on Capitol Hill Thursday.

The committee scheduled Thursday's hearing after Strzok called for a public hearing in the interest of transparency.

Strzok said he was directed by FBI's legal counsel not to answer questions about an ongoing investigation, but Goodlatte demanded that he answer Gowdy's question, prompting a lengthy delay before Strzok asked to speak to the FBI general counsel. "We'll stop it", Mr. Strzok replied.

An argument ensued between Goodlatte and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), the committee's ranking member, who contended that Gowdy was putting Strzok in an "impossible position".

Democrats, led by Judiciary Committee ranking member Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., attempted to throw a number of procedural roadblocks into the way of the majority's questions, including with a number of motions and "points of order" to slow the questioning. And that's only if the contempt charge makes it past committee and past the House.

Strzok declined to answer a question from Republican Representative Trey Gowdy, head of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, about interviews he conducted during the FBI's Russian Federation probe, saying the agency had directed him not to discuss ongoing investigations.

"If you were kicked off when he read the texts, shouldn't you have been kicked off when you wrote them?" They eventually cost Strzok his place on Robert Mueller's investigative team.

"I do not have bias", he continued, adding that he believed he was sacked not because his personal opinions impacted his work, but because the texts gave the "perception" of bias.

The FBI official said his "stop it" text was written late at night and off the cuff.

Strzok also expressed regret for the messages he and Page exchanged, but emphasized that his personal opinions did not impact any of his official actions.
