War with Iran is the mother of all wars, Rouhani tells Trump

Earlier this month Rouhani hinted that Tehran may block regional oil exports if its own sales are halted

Khamenei used a speech to foreign ministry officials on Saturday to reject any renewed talks with the United States after President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from a 2015 global deal over Iran's nuclear program.

Iran will seek improved relations with its Arab neighbors in the Persian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, Rouhani said in a speech in Tehran on Sunday, the semi-official Iranian Students' News agency reported.

"America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars", President Hassan Rouhani said, Reuters reported.

"You are not in a position to incite the Iranian nation against Iran's security and interests".

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has supported a suggestion by President Hassan Rouhani who hinted earlier this month that Tehran may block regional oil exports if its own sales are stopped following the US' withdrawal from a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. Rouhani made his comments a day after Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that negotiating with the US would be useless.

He also said Iran will not wait for Europeans to take action and will try to plan for maintaining the volume of the country's non-oil exports.

Earlier this month, Rohani suggested that Iran may block oil exports from the Persian Gulf if its own exports are stopped by US sanctions. Separately, a top Iranian military commander warned that the Trump government might be preparing to invade Iran.

Rouhani suggested that Iran has alternatives to shipping crude through Hormuz. He cautioned the US against pursuing hostile policies against Tehran, saying that war with Iran would be the "mother of all wars".

Iran's oil exports could fall by as much as two-thirds by the end of the year because of new US sanctions, putting oil markets under huge strain amid supply outages elsewhere in the world.

The comments come as the U.S. demands all countries end imports of Iranian oil by November 4 as part of its new policy towards Tehran after Washington unilaterally pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), known colloquially as the Iran nuclear deal.

But it has since eased its stance, saying it may grant sanction waivers to some allies that are particularly reliant on Iranian supplies.
