Thailand promises citizenship to three rescued boys and coach

Richard Harris a doctor from South Australia swam into the cave to determine if the boys were fit enough to make their arduous journey out of the cave

In this photo taken from video released by Thailand government, family members watch the rescued boys through a window at the Chiang Rai hospital in northern Thailand, Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

After a 17-day struggle, an image of the Thai boys flashing victory sign, smiling and waving from their hospital beds gripped the world.

Weenat Seesuk, an interior ministry official in Bangkok, said Ek and three of the rescued boys from the "Wild Boars" soccer team were stateless.

"We're here really looking at this as a movie that could inspire millions of people across the globe", Scott added. "They are children being children, it was an accident", Narongsak said.

Some of the "Wild Boars" football teamm members recuperating in hospital after their cave rescue.

The boys' families can visit them wearing protective gowns and masks, it added.

None of the boys was heard speaking in the clips shown at the news conference.

"Don't need to worry about their physical health and even more so for their mental health", said Chaiwetch Thanapaisal, director of the hospital. They will remain in hospital in the nearby city of Chiang Rai for a week, followed by a week's recuperation at home.

Although parents of the first eight boys rescued were able to see their sons, they had to stand six feet away from the children. Doctors were anxious about potential infections the children could have contracted in the cave.

The third and final group, including the soccer team's 25-year-old coach, who were all evacuated Tuesday, are taking antibiotics and at least some had lung infections.

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha asked that the boys be given time to recover.

"The important thing is ... personal space", Prayuth told reporters.

One of the boys, 11-year-old Chanin "Titan" Wiboonrungrueng, who is the youngest, looked asleep under a crisp white sheet. A Thai rescue diver died last Friday, highlighting the dangers. "Be good people, be a force for good for your country", Rear Admiral Apakorn Yuukongkaew, commander of Thailand's navy SEALS unit, said in a message to the boys before boarding a flight from Chiang Rai.

"We are not heroes".

In a nationally televised address, Prayuth said that the government's efforts, the assistance of people in Thailand and overseas, and the outpouring of moral support made the mission a success. "For SEALs, this is what we were trained for".

Another video released on Facebook by the Thai Navy SEALs, who were central to the rescue, apparently shows one of the boys being carried through part of the muddy cave on a stretcher covered by an emergency thermal blanket. The other five on the team were Thai navy SEAL divers.

The rescue has dominated front-page headlines in Thailand and beyond for days.

The Brits who discovered them were among the elite divers who flew out after the Thai authorities begged the world for help.

The Wild Boars were offered free tickets to the Fifa World Cup final in Russian Federation on Sunday (Monday NZT), but unfortunately they will still be under observation in hospital and are unable to attend.
