Suspect arrested in alleged racist attack on 91-year-old Mexican man

Rodriguez's family said they're grateful he'll eventually recover from his serious injuries, but they fear someone else may be targeted if those suspects remain on the streets.

Rodriguez, who doesn't speak English and is a legal United States resident, said he doesn't understand why the mob attacked him. She was being jailed in lieu of $200,000 bail.

"I didn't even bump into her kid", Rodriguez said. "Go back to Mexico".

"We're thankful to the police because they moved on it, and they did their job", Rodriguez's daughter, Aurelia Rodriguez, told KTLA Wednesday evening.

A witness who stopped to snap a photo of the attack reported the woman yelled "go back to your own country" at Rodriguez, who is a legal USA resident, according to KTLA.

"I just passed her and she pushed me and she hit me until she was done", Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez, who said he travels about twice a year from his home in Mexico to visit relatives in Willowbrook, suffered a broken jaw, broken cheekbones, two broken ribs and bruises on his face, back and abdomen, his family said.

Four men can also be seen joining the woman in the attack, according to video obtained by one of the witnesses. "She took the block of concrete and hit him in his head many times", the witness said. "Due to working every angle and lead in the case, it ultimately resulted in the arrest of Laquisha Jones without incident", the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement. "In the years I have been alive I have never offended anyone".

Police said on Tuesday that a motive for the attack is still unknown.

"I can't walk anymore", Mr Rodriguez told CNN in an interview. "When I tried to videotape her with my cell phone, she threw that same concrete block, tried to hit my vehicle". Public records show that Rodriguez is 91-years-old, though Mendoza said his grandfather was 92-years-old.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told the newspaper that they are still determining if more people were involved in the attack.

Rodriguez's grandson, Erik Mendoza, set up a GoFundMe campaign to pay for the medical treatment of his grandfather. He recalled the attack while lying back in a reclining chair at his relatives' Willowbrook home.

'I'll leave it to the law, ' he said in Spanish. "I'm in so much pain".
