Roger Federer explains why he lost to Kevin Anderson at Wimbledon

Serbia's Novak Djokovic returns against Russia's Karen Khachanov during their men's singles fourth round match on the seventh day of the 2018 Wimbledon Championships at The All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon southwest London on Jul

The second seed, a two-time champion at the All England Tennis Club, has been at his dominant best in the ongoing tournament, dispatching off opponents in straight sets. But that turned out to be the least of his worries.

Federer didn't seemed bothered by being away from Centre Court when he cruised through the first set in just 26 minutes. Federer ended up with more points won than Anderson in this match, but ultimately the difference came down to two unforced errors.

But Federer saved all of them before breaking and serving out the victory to love.

The three-time Wimbledon champion was broken in the opening game of the fourth set, but won the next four games and broke again to clinch victory.

However since then, the 2.03m-tall Anderson has improved markedly and Wednesday's match will be their first meeting on grass.

The final set lasted 90 minutes, and it was captivating stuff.

Federer beat Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the Round of 16 to progress through to the quarter-final stage where he will meet South African and world number eight Kevin Anderson.

Anderson's attempt to serve out the set was not without drama but, though Federer brought up a break-back point, a searing cross-court backhand saved it and a forehand into the left corner secured a decider.

Elsewhere in the men's bracket, Novak Djokovic has had a lot of ups and downs over the past few years, but he's back in the semifinal of a Grand Slam. So far the four matches have been really, really good for me'.

Next up for the American will be a battle of the big servers against Milos Raonic, who overcame Isner's countryman Mackenzie McDonald 6-3 6-4 6-7 (5/7) 6-2 to make the last eight for the fourth time in five years. "Now I feel horribly tired and just bad", Federer said.

Concentration is hard when you are 36 and it was Roger who wavered.

Federer fell to 266-3 in career Grand Slam matches where he won the first two sets.

After two years of physical and mental struggles, Djokovic appears fit and confident and ready to try to add to his tally of 12 grand slam titles.

Djokovic's mood was not improved by Ramos choosing not to punish Nishikori for imitating his earlier offence of bashing a racquet into the ground. I went with the flow of my routines and everything that I have to do to get myself ready for the match, if I get to play today.
