Samsung is expected to create 15,000 jobs through the new manufacturing unit. The plant started with the manufacture of televisions way back in 1997, and mobile phone manufacturing unit was added in 2005.

Speaking on the occasion, Narendra Modi stated that technology has transformed human lives in India.

According to an article in the Diplomat magazine's website, "During the (2017 presidential) election campaign, Moon pledged that he would elevate ties with India to the level of Korea's relations with the four major powers in and around the Korean Peninsula-China, Japan, Russia and the United States".

Samsung, which has been assembling phones in India since 2007, also plans to export India-made handsets, the company said in a statement. However, the company may not stop here and could achieve more feats as its new facility in Noida is the world's biggest which will give a considerable boost to the production capacity for Samsung.

Samsung's Noida plant was set up in 1996 and is the first of two manufacturing units in India. More than 120 local factories now assemble mobile phones and accessories like chargers, batteries, powerbanks and earphones in India, according to tech research firm Counterpoint.

Samsung's new facility will not only help in mobile manufacturing but also double its production capacity of consumer electronics like refrigerators and flat-panel televisions - which will further consolidate the company's leadership in these segments, according to the reports.

Samsung has two manufacturing plants in India, located in Noida and in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. In 2003, refrigerator production began.

Samsung India said in a press statement that the bigger manufacturing plant will respond to the growing demand for Samsung products across India.

The logo of Samsung is seen on a building during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain February 25, 2018. The plant spans 35 acres (141 thousand sq.m.) and aims to increase overall production of devices in India by 50%.
