Pence Cheers 'Pro-Life Administration' While Dodging Q's On Kavanaugh

Anti-abortion activists demonstrate in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington Monday

Vice President Pence said Tuesday that while he would personally like to see the Supreme Court one day overturn its landmark 1973 ruling legalizing abortion, neither he nor President Trump has discussed the issue with Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Brett M. Kavanaugh.

President Donald Trump's upcoming nomination of a new U.S. Supreme Court justice has everyone talking about the possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned.

The system assigns a score to Supreme Court justices based on their voting patterns; for federal appeals court judges, like Kavanaugh, scores are based on the ideologies of the presidents and senators who nominated them. "But what I can assure you is that what the president was looking for here was a nominee who will respect the Constitution as written, who will faithfully uphold the Constitution and all of his interpretations of the law". "I'm proud to be part of a pro-life administration that's advanced pro-life policies".

"I don't have an impression on judge Kavanaugh as to where he may fall on the issue of abortion, as well as the many other issues that I will weigh as we move forward with this process", Murkowski said, "So again, that's why I think all of us need to be doing our due diligence".

But the bigger unknown is now centered around Kavanaugh's so far undisclosed position on abortion rights and the landmark Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade. Kavanaugh's position on Roe v. Wade is not as easily defined as it is for others who were on Trump's SCOTUS short list. So, let's take a moment to correct the public record: Overturning Roe v. Wade will not criminalize abortion.

"What we don't want is to have people go to the courts with a specific objective or policy criteria. Congressional Democrats are not pointing out the fact that even if Roe vs. Wade was overturned, it would not automatically ban abortions across the country, although that's the way they're framing it".
