North Korea May Have Ramped Up Nuclear Production

The latest USA intelligence assessment of Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program suggests that "North Korean officials are exploring ways to deceive Washington about the number of nuclear warheads, and missiles and the types and numbers of facilities they have, believing that the United States is not aware of the full range of their activities", the Post reported, citing four us officials who have seen or been briefed on the latest intelligence.

Over a dozen unnamed officials told NBC reporters Courtney Kube, Ken Dilanian and Carol E. Lee that intel analysts' findings show the regime's increased efforts to produce enriched uranium for nuclear weapons - all while trying to milk as many concessions out of the Trump administration as it can. Interviewed on NBC's Meet the Press, Lindsey Graham of SC said North Korea would "regret it" if nuclear talks collapsed.

"Work is ongoing to deceive us on the number of facilities, the number of weapons, the number of missiles", the official said. "There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea", read part of a tweet from Trump after he returned to the United States from a summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

North Korea leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump stand together at the Capella resort on Sentosa Island. Officials in Pyongyang are seeking to obfuscate the true number of their weapons facilities, and USA intelligence officials believe that more than just one hidden site exists.

"There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea", Trump tweeted.

Trump's words reversed his declaration upon his return from Singapore that North Korea had ended its nuclear ambitons. "We are watching closely".

South Korea's new president Moon Jae-in also favours a softer approach towards Pyongyang and has met Kim twice during the recent remarkable detente on the Korean Peninsula.

CNN published satellite photos last week showing infrastructure upgrades in the works at Yongbyon Nuclear Scientific Research Center, a major nuclear research site in North Korea.

"I made a deal with him, I shook hands with him, I really believe he means it", said Trump. "The last best chance to avoid that war is a peaceful end to their nuclear program ... if they don't take it, and they play Trump like they've played everybody else, they're going to regret it".
