Nets trade Jeremy Lin to Hawks

Jeremy Lin

The Nets made the move early Friday morning to ease their logjam at point guard.

It is unclear what else the Nets will receive in return. ESPN first reported the deal, saying the Nets and Hawks would swap future second-round picks.

The Brooklyn Nets traded the oft-traveled point guard to the Atlanta Hawks, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday night. The Hawks now add Lin, who has one year remaining on his contract, to that guard mix.

Lin, 29, played just 25 minutes last season before suffering a season-ending ruptured patellar tendon on opening night.

Lin, headed to his seventh National Basketball Association team as he prepares to enter his ninth season, now joins a roster that includes two notable point guards, No. 5 overall pick Trae Young and veteran Dennis Schroder.

The Hawks will be the seventh team for Lin, the undrafted former Harvard star who memorably broke out with the Knicks during his run of Linsanity in February 2012. Faried is owed $13.76 million this season, and Arthur is set to earn $7.46 million.

Arthur, 30, got in just 30 contests in 2017-18, making one start.

The Nets had acquired Whitehead in a draft night trade with Utah in 2016.

An eight-year veteran, Lin has career averages of 12.0 points, 4.5 assists and 2.9 rebounds.
