Jesus Aguilar and Jean Segura win the Final Vote

Mitch Haniger made his first All Star team Sunday. Alan Chitlik Sportspress Northwest

In the NL balloting, he won out over Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals, Brandon Belt of the Giants, Max Muncy of the Dodgers, and Trea Turner of the Nationals. But he did finish ahead of Giancarlo Stanton (Yankees), Eddie Rosario (Twins) and Andrelton Simmons (Angels).

Aguilar was widely considered to be the most deserving of the NL candidates. Since the All-Star Final Vote began in 2002, Aguilar is now the third Brewers player to win the competition, following Geoff Jenkins (2003) and Corey Hart (2008).

Aguilar is presently tied for the NL lead with 23 home runs, and he boasts a.302/.369/.631 slash line, which comes to an OPS+ of 161. Brewers outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich had already been chosen, along with reliever Josh Hader.

As for Segura, the Mariners infielder is in the midst of a career year at the plate.

Segura now has 116 hits this season, tied for the second-most in Major League Baseball.

Segura's consistent production has helped ease the loss of second baseman Robinson Cano, who first suffered a broken hand and was then hit with an 80-game suspension for a positive PED test. This is his second All-Star Game selection.

Segura will be Seattle's fourth All-Star, joining designated hitter Nelson Cruz, outfielder Mitch Haniger and closer Edwin Diaz. Now in its 17 season, the All-Star Final Vote has recorded over 845 million votes.

There may be some more substitutions on the All-Star rosters between now and the game next Tuesday, but there will be no more straight additions now that the final vote is in.
