Italy’s Fiat workers on strike after Juventus sign Cristiano Ronaldo

A small union has called a strike at Fiat Chrysler's Melfi plant in Italy after its main investor, the Agnelli family, chose to pay 100 million euros to land Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

"It's unacceptable that, while FCA and CNHI workers continue to make huge economic sacrifices, the company spends hundreds of millions of euros on the purchase of a player", union USB Lavoro Privato said. However, with a new investment strategy in place, Fiat claims that all employees across Italy shall return to work by 2022.

After nine years, four Champions Leagues, Two La Ligas, four Ballon d'Ors and God-knows-how-many shirtless goal celebrations, Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer a Real Madrid player.

The union urged Fiat owners to invest in its workforce to bolster the finances of "thousands of people instead of only one".

Ronaldo equally confirmed that his stay at the Los Blancos after his then world-record fee of £80m from Premier League side Manchester United, was "possibly the happiest of my life".

The Agnelli family, which has owned Turin-based Juventus for more than 90 years, controls Ferrari and Fiat Chrysler through its holding company, Exor, which owns 64 per cent of Juventus.

Workers at the auto company's Melfi plant in southern Italy will walk off the job at 10 p.m. Sunday and remain on strike until 6 p.m. Tuesday, BBC News reported.

Its members will walk out at 22:00 local time on Sunday and remain on strike until 18:00 on the following Tuesday.

Workers at a Fiat Chrysler plant in Italy are planning to go on strike following Juventus' £99.2m signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
