Have mercy! Anderson demands rule change after Wimbledon epic

Isner reaches Wimbledon semi-finals after victory over Raonic

Playing in his 41st career major tournament and first ever major semifinal, the former Georgia star and national champion fell to Kevin Anderson of South Africa in five epic sets on Friday at the All England Club.

Anderson was the 10th most popular surname in WA, according to a 2012 survey.

Anderson will face either Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic in the final on Sunday.

Isner won the match, and now 14 years on here they both are on Centre Court, competing for a place in the Wimbledon final.

After winning the first set, Anderson then lost the following two sets, with the first three sets all needing a tie-breaker to separate the two men.

While the match was tense, it was far from compelling, with both power players simply blasting serves past one another and trading service in the final set. The two went back and forth all the way to 12-all, essentially playing a full sixth and seventh set. After the break, Anderson closed out the match on his serve 26-24, after more than six and a half hours.

Raonic delivered what was expected of him, smashing 31 aces to Isner's 25 in a booming encounter, but a failure to convert a set point in the second set tiebreak proved crucial. While Isner's match back in 2010 was a fun side note that helped garner interest in the tournament for fans it might not usually reach, to have a never-ending saga played in the semifinal doesn't look great for the sport.

Melichar and Peschke will play the victor of the second semifinal between No. 3 seeds Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic and the unseeded pair of Alicja Rosolska of Poland and Abigail Spears of the U.S.

After taking out Roger Federer in remarkable fashion, 2017 US Open runner-up Anderson was forced to go the distance once again and he triumphed in remarkable fashion.
