Had Damaging Information On Donald Trump, Says FBI Agent Peter Strzok

Hearing a 'victory notch in Putin's belt': FBI agent in Russia probe

He also said he had never contemplated leaking damaging information he knew about the Trump campaign.

"We know Peter Strzok is a bad guy", the California Republican told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" about the agent who at one time had been in charge of the investigations into Hillary Clinton's email server and that of now-President Donald Trump and Russian Federation.

A joint House hearing to question an FBI agent who worked on investigations involving both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton quickly devolved into chaos as Republicans demanded he answer questions about the Russian Federation investigation.

"I hesitate in part because of my gut sense and concern there's no big there there", Strzok said in the text. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte asked colleagues to imagine being investigated by someone who "hated you" and "disparaged you in all manner of ways". "I think not", Goodlatte said.

In an exchange with Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of SC, chair of the House Oversight Committee, Strzok defended his "we'll stop" Trump text.

Mr Strzok's case has been used by the president and many Republicans to discredit Mueller's investigation on alleged ties between Trump's campaign and the Kremlin.

Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, who represents Trenton, Princeton and Old Bridge, interrupted Gowdy and said Strzok is the one testifying, not the former Greenville prosecutor.

And yet some analysts couldn't help but notice a hint of irony in Republicans' argument that Strzok's personal views must have influenced his official duty, while they simultaneously conduct investigations into politicians they openly support or oppose.

The president and his supporters have cited the Page-Strzok texts as proof that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department had an anti-Trump agenda.

Strzok called it "horrible and disgusting behaviour", and said he was stating his opinion the electorate would "stop" a candidate like that. "So, I take great offense, and I take great disagreement to your assertion of what that was or wasn't".

Strzok said "based on that frightful, disgusting behavior", he assumed Trump would not win the election.

"I've talked to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents around the country", Gohmert continued, visibly upset. "It simply couldn't happen".

Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee said he would give Strzok a Purple Heart if he could. But the report said it found no evidence of political bias in the FBI's decision to not pursue criminal charges against Clinton. Last year, he was reassigned from Mueller's team after the compromising texts emerged.

But in defending himself and his agency, Strzok had to weather hours of attacks by Republicans, whose accusations drifted from personal animus toward President Donald Trump to blatant lying and moral misconduct with a senior Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer, Lisa Page.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) even questioned Strzok's character. Gohmert speculated about whether he looked "so innocent" when he looked into his wife's eyes and lied about the affair.

During the marathon hearing, Democrats staunchly defended Strzok.

"No, the disgrace is what this man has done to our justice system", Gohmert responded. Gohmert tried to shout over him and the committee chairman vainly tried to restore order.

Reading several of Strzok's text messages back to him, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) accused Strzok of having an "unusual and largely self-serving" definition of bias.

In his opening statement, Strzok acknowledged that while his text message criticism was "blunt", it wasn't directed at one person or party and included jabs not only at Trump but also at Clinton and Sen.

The Justice Department's inspector general has criticized Strzok and Page for creating the appearance of impropriety through the texts.
