Greensboro native John Isner eliminated in Wimbledon semifinals

Milos Raonica

Isner would like the US President, a serious tennis fan, to be in the Centre Court crowd as his guest for what promises to be another battle of big serves against Kevin Anderson.

Dabrowski and Xu were up a break at 4-2 in the third set, but could not hold on. But the South African was broken right back and couldn't capitalize on two set points in the tiebreaker - double-faulting on the first. Anderson then took the fourth set 6-4, breaking the Isner serve twice in the set.

In 2010 at Wimbledon, Isner and France's Nicolas Mahut played the longest match ever.

Kevin Anderson has won the first set of his Wimbledon semifinal against John Isner 7-6 (6). It was a drama filled set that went back-and-forth, similar to the third set.

Competing for the University of Georgia Bulldogs between 2003-2007 and he had an wonderful result in both singles and doubles, winning 283 matches for the Bulldogs overall! It was the second-longest match in Wimbledon history and longest one-day match in Wimbledon history.

Anderson finally broke Isner to go up 25-24, including winning a point that featured him slipping and falling and then getting up to hit a return with his left (non-dominant) hand that continued the rally.

"I played two matches over six hours in my career".

Isner and Anderson were no strangers to each other, facing off all the way back to their college days, when Isner defeated Anderson, who played at IL, in the 2007 NCAA Men's Team Final.

Isner is 33 years old now, a veteran on the ATP Tour.

The ball was in Kevin Anderson's court when he defeated Roger Federer on Wednesday to book a semifinal spot in the 2018 Wimbledon.

But with Djokovic and Nadal still waiting for their turn on Centre Court, the Serbian has decided to make use of his time in a rather unusual way.
