The EU may force Google to make significant changes to Android

The EU believes that forcing third-party OEMs such as Samsung and OnePlus to default to Google as a search engine or lose access to the Google Suite of apps - everything from Google Documents to the Play Store itself - is anticompetitive.

It's hard to argue against the convenience of technology such as Google Pay and Apple Pay.

One last change in this update is a new Activity feed accessible from the navigation drawer that replaces the shortcut to open or install Google Pay Send. A new Google Pay logo was sighed on some Pixel and other Android phones and the service finally rolled out in February, letting you send money on Contacts through Google Pay Send.

The crux of Vestager's argument is the fact that device manufacturers are faced with "an anti-competitive choice" - either Chrome and Google Search need be default tools on the device or they will not be able to use the Google Play Store, something Android users need to download apps and games. Earn points when you use Google Pay with select merchants and stores. For a while now, Google's mobile payments solutions have inexplicably been split across two apps. If you live in the United States, you can take advantage of this. Bought something for another person or for a project? However, Google Pay lacked the feature to send/receive money to/from others, with the functionality being restricted to Google Pay Send (formerly known as Google Wallet).

Given Google's account base and the reality that most folks have one, Google Pay's peer-to-peer payment effort could garner momentum.

In June past year the European Union fined Google $2.7billion (£2.03billion) for supposedly ranking its proprietary shopping comparison service higher than its competitors.
