UCLA basketball alum Billy Knight found dead after posting YouTube video

Former Westchester High and UCLA basketball player William "Billy" Knight was found dead early Sunday morning at 2:45 a.m. on a Phoenix roadway. Cal-Hi Sports' Ronnie Flores wrote on Twitter that he and others in the UCLA and basketball communities tried to reach out to Knight on Monday after watching the video. Knight published a cryptic, six-minute video, titled "I am Sorry Lord", just hours before he was found dead. He also noted that he "felt like I didn't belong here on earth". Life is not a game. I love you more than words can ever define!

"Notice of Knight's death surfaced after fellow former UCLA player Lorenzo Mata tweeted "... He follows by admitting to a life of sin, discussing mental illness, and apologizing to his family and friends.

Knight is the second former UCLA star to die tragically in recent days.

Knight was a fantastic player for the Bruins between 1997 and 2002, but unfortunately is yet another UCLA alum gone too soon. I hear voices in my head constantly and I don't know where they come from. On Instagram, former Phoenix Suns head coach and UCLA teammate Earl Watson posted a short video clip of him and Knight laughing in a vehicle. "I just feel like I can't continue on". But he said he left "some things" for him, saying it's not much, but it's what he had left.

When he wasn't picked in the 2002 National Basketball Association draft, Knight played professionally in France and Japan. At the time of his death, he had been on the staff of the Northern Arizona Suns, a developmental G league team affiliated with the NBA's Phoenix Suns. The Arizona Suns official statement, issued on Tuesday, according to the New York Daily News, states that they were "deeply saddened by the passing".
