Eating dinner earlier could reduce cancer risk

Стало известно чем вредит здоровью ранний ужин

"Population-based studies have found that people who eat late at night have higher rates of obesity and worse metabolic profiles".

However, "this study is not a reason to try to gain weight to prevent breast cancer". The study indicated the involvement of antioxidants and other micro-nutrients present in these vegetables, in reducing risks of tumour development in breasts.

That's great news for people like my parents, who used to pull me off the baseball diamond away from my friends so I could eat a subpar meatloaf dinner at 4:30 P.M. Then it was off to stay awake for another six hours.

According to a study that was conducted at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health in Spain, eating your final meal of the day too late can increase the risk of developing cancer. The risk of developing breast cancer decreased by 16% and that of developing prostate cancer by 26%. In addition, a control group with more than 2,000 men and women (who did not have cancer) were also taken into account in the study.

They analyzed participants' lifestyles like their meal times and sleeping habits. They also defined their chronotype - that is, whether they are a morning or an evening person.

Participants were also asked to complete a Food Frequency Questionnaire to look at their dietary habits and adherence to cancer prevention recommendations.

"The findings highlight the importance of assessing circadian rhythms in studies on diet and cancer", Kogevinas added.

In short, eating dinner with at least two hours before bedtime is linked to lower cancer risks, and this result might "have implications for cancer prevention recommendations, which now do not take meal timing into account", said Dr. Kogevinas.

A new International Journal of Cancer study reveals that eating an early supper and having a long interval between the last meal and sleep are associated with lower breast and prostate cancer risks. Use #GeniusKitchen to let us know what you're sharing!

Findings from previous research may be relevant as they have noted how the timings of meal consumption can affect our metabolism and insulin levels.
