Donald Trump arrives in London on his maiden visit to UK

US Embassy in London Warns Americans to 'Keep a Low Profile' Amid Trump Visit

Protests are expected against Trump, whose policies - including a travel ban on a number of predominantly Muslim countries, the detention of child migrants on the US-Mexico border and the imposition of tariffs on European Union steel and aluminium exports - have all been criticised by the UK.

He said: "The people voted to break it up so I would imagine that's what they would do, but maybe they're taking a different route - I don't know if that is what they voted for".

"There is no stronger alliance than that of our special relationship with the USA and there will be no alliance more important in the years ahead", the British leader said.

It has been dubbed Storm Trump and the country is braced for a USA presidential visit that has split opinion like never before.

But protests against Mr Trump have already started, with about a dozen activists from Stand Up to Racism Scotland staging a brief demo outside the Turnberry course on Wednesday.

Speaking at an impromptu press conference after a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels Trump said the British people shared his concerns on immigration, claiming "that's why Brexit happened".

"This week we have an opportunity to deepen this unique trading relationship and begin discussions about how we will forge a strengthened, ambitious and future-proof trade partnership". May will host Trump and tuxedo-clad government ministers and representatives of fund managers BlackRock and Blackstone Group, as well as Arup and drinks manufacturer Diageo, for a dinner of Scottish salmon, beef and strawberries and clotted cream ice cream to discuss post-Brexit trade. "I'm very strong on immigration".

Labour Party legislator Paul Flynn, who has criticized Trump in Parliament, says Trump has outraged Britons - and people around the world - with his harsh treatment of immigrants.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to protest against the president in London on Thursday and Friday - and in Glasgow on Saturday.

The largest demonstration is expected in central London on Friday where a giant "Trump baby" balloon will fly close to Parliament after being given the go-ahead by London mayor Sadiq Khan.

But Drew, an American student who lives here in the United Kingdom, won't be among the demonstrators.

Downing Street insisted Mrs May welcomed Mr Trump's decision to "engage" with the Russian leader in the Finnish capital on Monday.

Mr Trump will meet the US Ambassador at Winfield House after arriving and then head to Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

The two leaders will hold talks at the Prime Minister's country residence of Chequers where Russia, Brexit and the Middle East will top the agenda.

Later, Trump will take tea with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle, a home to the royals for 1,000 years, part of a tour created to keep him away from protesters.
