Baddiel and Skinner score as Three Lions gets to number 1

Three Lions set to return to the Top 40 ahead of England's quarter-final

The Black Country comedian has shown he is well and truly caught up in the World Cup fever as England go for glory against Croatia on Wednesday night.

Two other football songs are also set to re-enter the top 40, with Fat Les' 1998 song Vindaloo at 28 and New Order's 1990 number one hit World In Motion at 34.

The song was released in 1996, when England hosted the European Football Championship, to poke fun at the lack of worldwide tournament success the country had experienced since winning the World Cup in 1966.

As the World Cup moves into its final week, the web has been awash with "It's Coming Home" memes.

The Wolf of Wall Street knows a sure thing when he sees it...

"The first year I left Yeovil I had a feeling Yeovil would get promoted that year, which is ironic as I'd left the club, and they did, and I'm getting that feeling again with England".

"It's coming home, it's coming home" - England's 1996 soccer anthem is making its way back up the music charts this week as fans fantasise about World Cup victory in Russian Federation. I actually watched England win the World Cup, I actually watched it. Demi Lovato from the top of the charts on Sunday evening.

In 2018, right at this moment, "Three Lions" is all-pervasive on the English airwaves, utterly unavoidable at bars and pubs, pumped out virtually on repeat before, during and after English World Cup matches.

The song, originally by the Lightning Seeds & the comedy duo of Baddiel & Skinner, was initially a Euro 96 song. Though perhaps that's getting ahead of things somewhat; nearly certainly, as the Lightning Seeds immortalized, the team will manage despite the confidence of the country behind them to make an error in judgement or tactics and get the boot before seizing the trophy.

But the England manager gave a nod to the It's Coming Home movement on Saturday for the first time.

I know that was then.
