Alisson: Roma defend decision to sell goalkeeper to Liverpool

Liverpool have agreed a world record fee with Roma for goalkeeper Alisson, sources have told ESPN FC.

Liverpool's goalkeeping woes finally seem to be coming to an end.

The moment Gareth Bale's shot was inadvertently turned into his own net in the Champions League, the second of two cataclysmic errors in the final in Ukraine, Loris Karius must've feared for his Liverpool career.

Club colleague Dejan Lovren will return the following day after playing in the World Cup final for Croatia, meaning the duo are unlikely to be involved against West Ham at Anfield on August 12.

"It's hard when you're a sporting director - we received a significant offer for Alisson and we evaluated it".

With his signing, as well as the arrivals of Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita and Fabinho, Liverpool are undoubtedly now one of the favourites to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time since 1990.

Jürgen Klopp has said the increasing demands of global football has to stop or clubs will have to "collect the bones" of players throughout the season.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists he and his players have moved on from their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old, who now plays for Roma in Italy, is cutting short his vacation to undergo a medical on Merseyside after being given permission to talk to Liverpool.

Alisson, who had been on holiday in Sardinia after Brazil's World Cup campaign, has cut short his R&R and on Wednesday evening he boarded a flight from Ciampino Airport to Manchester, from where, according to Metro, he will be met by Liverpool officials. If Origi does become a Newcastle player, it will only be on a permanent deal.

Some fine work from super agent Bobby Firmino worth mentioning though. Is Alisson the last piece in the jigsaw?

At £68 million, they'll certainly be hoping so.
