You can no longer book Uber rides directly in Google Maps

Uber testing feature that offers a cheaper ride if you wait a few minutes

Google is constantly adding new features and functionality to its array of mobile apps, which is why today's news is so surprising.

Google made a big fuss about having the ability to book an Uber through the Maps app when the functionality was added in January 2017.

The exact reason behind this is unknown, as Google hasn't said anything besides "you can no longer book Uber rides directly in Google Maps" on a support page. However, for reasons now unknown, Google just removed that integration. Users were able to enter a location, identify their route, then check Uber prices and request a ride without ever leaving the Maps app. Which is why Google partnered up with Uber so they could integrate the company's ride-sharing service directly into the Google Maps application.

For a reason yet to be explained, Alphabet's removed the ability to hail Uber rides from Google Maps. This cool integration is now gone!

This partnership seemed to have expanded even further this year a version of Google Maps Beta was found to be able to create an Uber account directly. "You can no longer book Uber rides directly in Google Maps", the page read. The iOS version of the app lost the feature last Summer, and now it's been excised from the Android version, as spotted by Android Police. The company says Uber Lite is a native app designed for people with ... With the service, you have an estimate in advance showing approximately how much your ride will cost, and you get to sit in a clean late model auto instead of a dirty cab with a driver running up the fare.

We haven't seen confirmation of Uber's removal from Google, so we don't know the reasoning behind it or exactly when it happened. If you don't have the app installed, you will be sent to the Google Play Store where you can install it.
