What Did Robert De Niro Say At The Tony Awards?

After the awards show, De Niro traveled to Toronto, Ontario and publicly apologized to the Canadian people for "the idiotic behavior of my president".

Taking to the podium to address a crowd of reporters and dignitaries, De Niro addressed a recent storm of tweets by Trump calling Trudeau "weak" and "dishonest".

Robert De Niro introduces a performance by Bruce Springsteen at the 72nd Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York, June 10, 2018.

The CBS television audience heard dead silence instead of De Niro's comments, The Associated Press reports.

In Toronto on Monday, Mayor John Tory, who attended the same event De Niro spoke at, also took note of the actor's Tony Awards outburst, the Toronto Star reported.

Trudeau has not issued any public remarks about Trump's latest attacks.

While he might have expected others in Hollywood to defend him, he probably didn't expect someone to suggest President Donald Trump himself was to blame after the comments.

The actor has been a vocal critic of Trump, twice declaring "f-- Trump" during the Tony Awards on Sunday night and receiving a standing ovation.

Trudeau said Canada "will not be pushed around". He went on to argue that people should be upset about Trump's rhetoric if they were angry about De Niro's.

"Bruce, you can rock the house like nobody else", he said. In addition to appearing many times as Special Counsel Robert Mueller on "Saturday Night Live", he publicly called Trump and "idiot" who "lacks any sense of humanity or compassion" in March.

A spokesperson for the United States network CBS - which was broadcasting the event - subsequently confirmed that it had bleeped the actor's curses out of the show.
