Trump delivers warning on trade as he leaves G-7 summit

Senior economic adviser Kudlow briefs White House journalists ahead of Thursday's G7 summit

Each country now faces crucial decisions about how to proceed.

Once again, he emphasized that the days of the USA getting the short end of the stick in its trading relationships with the world were over under his watch.

In response, Trudeau's spokesman said the federal government was focused on what was accomplished at the summit.

"The EU trade surplus with the USA is $151bn, and Canada keeps our farmers and others out". But if steps arent taken, he said, the penalties would be severe.

Speaking before departing early from the summit this afternoon, a furious President Trump vowed he would no longer allow the likes of the European Union to treat the United States like a "piggy bank". During his time in La Malbaie, the USA president refused to back down.

"After calling out Trudeau and Macron before the summit, he took a different approach on Saturday, "[congratulating] he leaders of other countries for crazily being able to make these trade deals that were so good for their countries and bad for the United States" and chastising his predecessors for allowing the U.S.to be taken advantage of.

When Trump was pressed about the annexation of Crimea, he placed the blame on President Barack Obama for failing to handle the situation.

But the attempts to convey at least a semblance of unity were undermined when Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed he was going ahead with his tariffs against the United States in response to USA moves against his country's steel and aluminum industries.

His early departure from the G7 meant he will miss sessions on climate change and the environment.

French President Emmanuel Macron stared at Trump after he sat down.

But despite the rows over trade and Russia, Trump rated his relationship with other G7 leaders as 10 out of 10. I think better for both countries.

He said he would know within the first minute if Kim was serious about denuclearization and if he wasn't serious he would walk out of the meeting. Trump credited his intuitive "touch" as a dealmaker.

The proposed investment, it said, could help educate more than eight million children and teenagers. "Fake news CNN", Trump said.

President Donald Trump doubled down Saturday on his earlier calls for Russian Federation to re-join the G7. A Canadian official said the leaders discussed accelerating the pace of the talks.

Theresa May insisted that she had exchanged warm greetings with the U.S. president and he had said how much he was "looking forward" to his visit. "Were not looking to play games", Trump added.

The president defended the "national security" rationale for the tariffs. It also holds a seat in the larger Group of 20. It was kicked out of the G8 in 2014 for annexing Crimea from Ukraine.

But Trump's claims that he is in favor of global free trade would appear contradictory to his recent imposition of tariffs on U.S. allies, much to their collective discontent.

Trump followed it up with a second post that targeted Canada's auto and dairy industries: "PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, "US Tariffs were kind of insulting" and he 'will not be pushed around.' Very dishonest & weak".

White House Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow, who was invited by Trump to speak from the same podium, described the comments as Trump's "free trade proclamation".
