Loughborough Junction people hit by train

Passengers who use the station have paid tribute to the three people found dead on Twitter.

An investigation has begun to identify the three people and the reason why they were on the tracks.

Seven people died when a auto pulled onto a rail crossing in 2004 in Berkshire, southern England, and seven died when a tram crashed in Croydon, south London in 2016.

A police spokesman said the injuries were ' consistent with having been hit by a train'.

"Officers have delivered the sad news to one family as we believe one of the men was their son".

British Transport Police were called following a report of multiple bodies being found.

Emergency services attended the incident but three people were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said they were treating the deaths as "unexplained".

Loughborough Junction station is between Herne Hill and Elephant and Castle and is served by Thameslink.

Commuters are advised to check with National Rail Enquiries before travelling today.

The station is served by Thameslink, and platforms and tracks are above ground level.

Police officers urged those holding any information regarding the event to send a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 93 of 18/06/2018.
