This Trump G7 Press Conference In Quebec Was Something Else

Trump blamed US leaders going back half a century for letting the country down with "unfair" trade policies.

Both Moscow and Mr Trump have denied the allegations.

As he headed to the summit of G7 nations - the United States, Canada, Japan, Britain, Italy, Germany and France - the U.S. president said: "Russia should be in the meeting".

When asked about his calls for Russian Federation to be reinstated to the Group of 7 nations, which had been expelled after it invaded Crimea in 2014, President Trump blamed former President Barrack Obama for Russia's annexation of Crimea, saying, "Crimea was let go during the Obama administration, and you know, Obama can say all he wants, but he allowed Russian Federation to take Crimea".

What else did Trump have to say?

He says "we're not looking to play games".

Trump left the summit early to fly to Singapore, where he is set to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday.

The two-day summit in Canada has been marred by a tit-for-tat exchanges of hostile tweets, with USA trading partners furious over Mr. Trump's decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico as part of his "America First" agenda.

He said: "Russia should be in this meeting".

The U.S. leader described the meetings with his counterparts as cordial, and he repeatedly blamed past U.S. leaders for what he views as a trade imbalance.

President Trump's remarks were so free-wheeling that the panel on MSNBC's AM Joy wondered about his "state of mind".

The G7 summit of developed Western economies, namely the US, Germany, Japan, the UK, France, Italy and Canada wrapped up Saturday in the Quebec town of La Malbaie.

Trump warned countries against levying retaliatory tariffs on the USA after his administration imposed punitive tariffs on aluminum and steel imports from Canada, Mexico, and the European Union on national security grounds.

Trump's press conference Saturday marked his first solo press conference since February 16, 2017. "We have a world to run", he said.

Despite his sharp differences with USA allies, the president insisted he has a "great relationship" with his foreign counterparts.

Mr. Trump said he stood up his G7 allies who were angry over US steel and aluminum tariffs imposed against Canada, Europe and Mexico.

In response, Canada, Mexico and the European Union said they were putting in place their own retaliatory measures.

European leaders warned Trump's stance on trade, climate, Iran and - now - Russian Federation was setting him apart, and Canada firmly rejected the tariffs threat and warned of retaliation.

On 1 June, the USA imposed a 25% tariff for steel and 10% for aluminium on imports from the EU, Canada, and Mexico.

The summit host, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, kicked things off without waiting for those he described as "stragglers" to arrive.

Trudeau had made the issue of gender equality a priority for the gathering.

President Donald Trump said Saturday at the Group of Seven summit in Quebec, Canada, that the United States would "stop trading" with some of its closest allies unless they change what he believes to be unfair trade policies.

But details are scant so far, and clear differences are remaining.

The president went into the meeting under intense pressure from foreign leaders after he slapped high tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, citing US national security needs.
