The best photos from Trump's historic summit with Kim Jong Un

But he noted that the "war games" with South Korea that Trump said he will end, will continue if the North Korean leader doesn't follow through on his commitments. "I think he's going to start now", he said.

It's the first ever meeting between a sitting USA president and North Korean leader. He added that he hoped to withdraw U.S. troops from South Korea at some point - further undermining the long alliance.

Pyongyang has demanded the end of what it calls a "hostile policy" towards it, but in public has only pledged to pursue the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula - a euphemism open to wide differences of interpretation. "I don't need to worry about the war stuff, I don't know anything about that", he said.

It was not immediately clear what specific progress, if any, had been made in preliminary discussions between U.S. and North Korean officials. About 5,300 were lost in North Korea.

Trump made the comments about Warmbier after being pressed to expand on his comment that Kim, who leads a country known for many of its human rights abuses, was a "very talented" leader.

Rodman, who repeatedly praised Trump's willingness to engage with North Korea, said he was previously threatened for defending North Korea.

The North Korean government have already brushed off the comparisons, arguing that Pyongyang has surpassed Libya in its pursuit of nuclear weapons and is now "a nuclear weapons state"-unlike either Libya or Iraq, Kim Kye Gwan, the first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs for North Korea said in May".

Openly wiping away tears from beneath a large pair of black sunglasses, Rodman, who arrived in Singapore overnight, appeared overcome with emotion during an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo Tuesday, as Kim and Trump prepared to sit down for talks in the Asian city-state.

On Mr Kim's part, the handshake is a lot less dramatic than the one the North Korean leader gave South Korean President Moon Jae-in just a month ago, where he gripped Mr Moon's hand and led him over to the North Korean side of the border.

Before the summit, several commentators wondered how the travel-shy Kim was going to get to Singapore, having not flown such a distance since coming to power in December 2011. "And he said, 'Hey, Dennis, I would like to ask you three things".

During his talk with Hannity, Trump said his inflammatory rhetoric helped spur this new meeting.

Trump said the USA will be monitoring the situation in North Korea to be sure that Kim is committed to dismantling his country's nuclear program.

"We've never given that in because it's been our right, and it means readiness for our troops", he said.

All of this suggests that a wild-card president ― the last thing you want in the sensitive negotiation ― could have created serious problems, and not only for USA negotiators, who will now have to iron out the details with North Korea.
