Pokemon GO is getting friends and trading

Pokemon Go to Add Trading and Friend Features Later This Week

"Pokemon Go" will celebrate its second birthday on July 6, which means it's been nearly two years since that groundbreaking augmented-reality adventure game took over the world, and summoned millions of people to their local parks and playgrounds to catch Pidgeys and take over gyms. For example, a new friendship feature will let you finally trade Pokemon with other players. Adding another trainer to your friend list will be as simple as swapping a trainer code with someone, sending them a friend request and waiting for them to accept or reject it. The traded Pokemon's HP and CP is more likely to be closer to its initial value the greater your friendship level, but there's still no guarantee that what you see is what you'll get.

You can also build your Friendship Level by trading Pokémon with a friend.

An official launch date for these features was not revealed beyond the summer launch period.

If you're trading for a beast you don't already have, that will fall under the category of a "special trade". Check their explainer out here. Gifting can increase your Friendship Level, but only once per day. All your friends' activity is visible in a new feed, letting you know if a buddy just snagged a Pokémon you need. There are four levels to Pokemon Go's friendship system, each with its own rewards. All trades are powered by Stardust, and some trades require more Stardust than others. These kinds of trades can only occur once per day and only between Great or Best Friends - the two highest Friendship Levels. Gift bundles will sometimes appear when you spin a PokeStop, and you'll be able to send them on. When you trade Pokemon, the Pokemon will receive a free Candy. It seems that the game wants to incentivize trading special Pokemon with only their best friends. Pokemon Go emphasizes players getting up and going outside to explore and find new Pokemon.

Players will need to be within 100 meters in order to complete a trade - so this isn't a feature that players can use remotely.

Here's how it works: If you want to become friends with someone, you'll need someone to share their Trainer Code with you.

Lastly, PokeStops will sometimes spawn Gifts, which can be sent to a trainer in your friends list. They can contain all sorts of items as well as a "postcard" showing them where the gift was picked up. These special eggs hatch Alolan Pokemon, though many Alolan forms will still be found in the wild.
