Egypt beat Uruguay 1-0, courtesy a late victor from Jose Gimenez, whereas Morocco's Aziz Bouhaddouz scored an own goal to give Iran their first World Cup match win since 1998.

"The banner read "#NoBan4Women" and "Support Iranian Women to Attend Stadiums" and it was held aloft during the match against Morocco in the Russian city of St. Petersburg on Friday.

"The US sanctions mean that Nike, as an American company, can not now provide shoes to the Iranian team", the company said in their justification for the decision.

After going winless at the last FIFA World Cup, it took Asia just the second attempt for them to get off the mark at Russian Federation 2018 after Iran's dramatic 1-0 win over Morocco on Friday.

Jahanbakhsh further said that "To be honest we didn't care actually".

Well, that's exactly what happened Friday, the second day of World Cup play.

Iran face Spain in their next Group B match on June 20, before playing Portugal five days later.

Iran earned the corner in the 94th minute with both teams scoreless.

Iran stole a late victory Thursday against Morocco as defender Aziz Bouhaddouz headed the ball into his own net in the 95th minute.

It will be the 21st FIFA World Cup. "I think it's my duty to say, 'Let my boys play football". They are just football players.

Mexican Manuel Rosas was the first to score an own goal in World Cup.

"If the game against Morocco was the World Cup final for us", Queiroz said, "the game against Spain will be the Universe Cup final".

Prior to World Cup 2018, the American shoe company Nike announced it would not be providing equipment to Iranian players due to the USA sanctions imposed on Iran.
