NASA Sued Over Vial Of Moon Dust Gifted By Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong 'gave' woman dust she sues NASA

The woman, Laura Murray Cicco, says that as a 10-year-old, his client received a "glass vial with a rubber stopper full of light grey dust", along with a signed note from the famed Apollo 11 astronaut.

A group of scientists came to the conclusion that the warming has resulted in damage to the surface of the wheels of the lunar Rover and boots that reduced reflection of sunlight.

A woman filed a federal lawsuit against NASA last week, in a preemptive legal action to keep the moon dust she said Neil Armstrong gave her as a gift when she was a little girl.

The lunar material was tested, and it showed that the vial contained some celestial material, McHugh said. NASA has not made any attempt to retrieve the vial from Cicco, nor has there been any confirmation by the space agency whether it plans to do it. But she found the vial after her parents died five years ago. That expert, however, added that he found it hard to "rule out lunar origin", adding that Earthbound dust might have blended in with the purported lunar content.

One of the most contentious cases occurred in 2011, when Joann Davis, the widow of a former Nasa engineer, attempted to sell two Lucite paperweights given to her by her late husband - one containing a rice grain-sized piece of lunar rock, the other with a piece of the Apollo 11 heat shield. But a Nasa official suspected that Davis had committed a crime by being in possession of contraband or stolen government property, as The Washington Post's Fred Barbash wrote. She and her second husband were allegedly lured to a Denny's restaurant by an informant posing as a broker, only for them to be arrested and questioned by federal agents for the next two hours. "Laura shouldn't be afraid that NASA is going to come knocking on her door and barge in and try and take the vial".

Nasa's Office of the Inspector General launched a sting on Davis, who was then 74.

Almost 50 years later, Ms Cicco filed the lawsuit out of fear that Nasa will attempt to confiscate the moon dust from her.

Davis later reached a US$100,000 settlement with the government, according to court records.

Cicco kept and displayed the autographed note in her room, but she didn't see the moon dust for decades after it was given to her.

"This is not stolen property", he continues.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has previously taken the position that "private persons can not own lunar material", because it is property of the government agency.

"It means more for my memory of my father", she says.
