Mexico’s win against Germany caused an earthquake… literally

If Germany finish as group runners-up, they could face Brazil in a clash of World Cup titans in the next round - a flawless chance for the Brazilians to avenge the humiliating 7-1 defeat to the Germans on home soil in 2014.

Yesterday, Mexico created the sensation during its first game the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation by defeating Germany, the reigning world champion 1 - 0. After the stupendous performance by the team, a video is going viral where a Mexican fan bent down to his knee and proposed to his girlfriend.

The world football body gave no details of the nature of the insults but media reports said Mexican fans aimed shouts of "puto" (Spanish for a male prostitute) at Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.

Sunday's match attendance stood at 78,000 people, with Mexican fans accounting for almost half of that number.

Were there earthquakes in Mexico City as fans cheered their team's upset win over Germany in the World Cup? Yes.

Two hours before the kick-off, I met Horacio Hernandez, a Mexican travelling fan who has brought his wife and three children here for the tournament. "With all respect, I think in the first half of the match that we were the superior team".

As a player in a World Cup you have to accept pressure. Mexico defeated Germany 1-0 in a match played at Group-F last night.

"We are aware that we need to improve our game", 2014 World Cup victor Toni Kroos said this week. Overall we had our chances but did not score. "We have made history in a way that no one ever has".

"It's pretty simple: we played like we did against Saudi Arabia, but this time it was against a better opponent", fumed the Bayern Munich player, who was booked for a foul in the dying stages.

"It's a good moment to send a message", said the Eintracht Frankfurt player in a news conference at the team's training base outside of Moscow.
