Lyon Cancel Dealings With Liverpool Over Nabil Fekir Transfer

Liverpool transfer news Nabil Fekir is on the brink of completing a switch to Anfield

Nabil Fekir has passed his Liverpool medical and will become the Reds' latest signing, according to French FA president Noel Le Graet.

Fekir's medical had reportedly taken place at French national team's training camp and that's where the complications began.

"Transfer negotiations with Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded and Olympique Lyonnais have made a decision to put an end to this negotiation tonight at 8pm", Lyon said in a statement on their official website on Saturday night.

On Saturday it was reported by the Telegraph that Liverpool had hesitated on completing the move due to a hitch in the player's medical, possibly due to a serious knee injury Fekir sustained three years ago. He had settled on a £140,000-a-week package at Anfield with a five-year contract settled.

In a statement released on the French club's official website, Lyon claimed that a breakdown in negotiations have resulted in French global remaining where he is for the time being. I spent a quarter of an hour with him this morning [Saturday], and his main focus is France. "There is something logical, it has already been done for others".

"He was looking forward to it because the visit he had was positive".

"It's always like that when you talk about a transfer: each tries to raise his price, to lower his price, when there's a hiccup someone wants it reduced".

Whether this represents the actual end of the pursuit of Fekir remains to be seen. The veteran administrator has no concerns over the saga lingering on into France's World Cup campaign, where they have been drawn alongside Denmark, Peru and Australia in Group C.

"It would be better for him, but he's not perturbed", he said of the No.10.

Fekir scored 21 goals in all competitions for Lyon this past season.
