Korean leader arrives in Pyongyang after Trump summit

Trump said the United States has assured security guarantee to the North Koreans.

Proving he was a worthy foil, Kim stole the show from Trump on Monday night.

And Kim's media machine told the North Korean public how Mr Trump has reciprocated the offer of Kim visiting the U.S. in a state visit. The halted exercises seem to be a concession to Pyongyang, which has repeatedly claimed that the drills are practice for a strike against North Korea.

After the handshake, Mr Trump was asked how he was feeling about the meeting while sitting next to Kim Jong Un.

"So that's good for a number of reasons, in addition to which we save a tremendous amount of money", Mr Trump said.

And on Wednesday, the official newspaper of the Workers' Party of Korea featured three full pages of photos from Kim's summit with Trump. North Korea's anti-U.S. propaganda dates to the war and regularly shows North Korean soldiers bayonetting the USA flag.

Defense Secretary James Mattis on Monday said the USA will not pull any of its 28,5000 troops from the Korean peninsula.

He said Trump and Kim reached understandings not written in the document they signed.

He said it was unclear whether the destruction of the stand is an indication that the North is suspending this portion of its missile program or whether it plans to erect other similar facilities in the future.

But North Korea's confidence began to show nearly as soon as Kim arrived in Singapore on Sunday. Pompeo, the former Central Intelligence Agency director, then plans to fly to Beijing to update the Chinese government on the talks. The length of the contact, their facial expressions and body language, the stunning backdrop of interlocked national flags - all of it was instantly analyzed, criticized and marveled at in tweets and commentary in South Korea, the United States and beyond.

South Korean Minister of Defence, Itsunori Onodera, said: "We would like to seek an understanding of this between Japan, the US and South Korea".

Kim and Trump signed a document after their talks in which the North Korean leader reaffirmed his commitment to "work toward complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula", without giving further details.

The president called his meeting with Kim "honest, direct and productive", and said Pyongyang promised to a "major missile site" though this was agreed after the deal was signed, explaining its absence from the document.

"I find it stunning that the White House didn't tell the South Koreans about stopping the joint exercises beforehand, but then again this is a president who doesn't believe in allies".

Mr Trump will depart Singapore from Paya Lebar Airbase at about 7pm, said the White House. KCNA also reported that Trump had expressed his intention to lift sanctions "over a period of goodwill dialogue" between the two countries.

A day after President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un held their summit in Singapore, is it clearer whether President Jae-in played a positive or negative role?

"I was surprised", he said, according to a report by Breaking Defense.

Despite Trump's optimism after his summit with Kim, many remained skeptical that North Korea, infamous on the world stage for making empty promises, especially when it comes to its nuclear program, would follow through on its pledges from this week's meetings.

Adam Mount, a US defence analyst, expressed anger about seeing the USA and North Korean flags side by side. That leads to further concerns that Trump may make further frivolous concessions in a bid to gain quick results simply out of political motives. He said he planned to continue sharing the view with Washington and Seoul.
