The three-year-old chestnut colt became the 13th horse ever to win the Triple Crown of the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes after a dominant victory at Belmont Park in New York Saturday.

"No, Restoring Hope has natural speed", Baffert said.

In a freakish trend dating back to 1930, in years horse racing sees a Triple Crown - Notre Dame football enjoys a successful season.

The owner for both fourth-place finisher Vino Rosso and last-place horse Noble Indy, Mike Repole, said Restoring Hope's strategy did not play to his strengths and therefore raised red flags.

'If my horse would have broke on top, I would have been on the lead and Justify laying second.

Justify was one of two horses in the Belmont Stakes trained by racing legend Bob Baffert and the other, Restoring Hope, is being accused of blocking for the favourite.

Baffert was a little nervous after the first quarter-mile when Justify went out fast.

It was the largest Belmont field ever beaten by a Triple Crown victor.

Justify's hall-of-fame trainer Bob Baffert said the win was meant to be. "He's now become a household name and I'm looking forward to his next race as much as you guys are", he said. West fumed over Geroux's ride when asked for comment by the New York Post.

Since 1990, there have been 10 instances where horses have won the first two of the three legs of the Triple Crown: Silver Charm in 1997, Real Quiet in 1998, Charismatic in 1999, War Emblem in 2002, Funny Cide in 2003, Smarty Jones in 2004, Big Brown in 2008, I'll Have Another in 2012 and California Chrome in 2014. "I will never know". It is possible Justify could be paraded at the track like American Pharoah after he won the Triple Crown for Baffert in 2015. They've been running rabbits in races for years, and Noble Indy was not a rabbit.

But the owner says he hopes the NY racing stewards talk to Geroux about his ride.

According to NY state gaming commission regulations: 'If any horses trained by the same trainer race uncoupled in any race, and one or more of them shall be disqualified for violation of the rules of racing, any other horses entered by that same trainer shall also be disqualified if in the judgment of the stewards such violation prevented any other horse or horses from finishing ahead of the other part of the entry.
