Ikeme’s Wolves Sign Portuguese World Cup Keeper Patricio

Wolves complete signing of Portuguese star Rui Patricio after Sporting CP turmoil

Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio on a free transfer from Sporting Lisbon.

The 30-year-old was one of seven Sporting players who last week terminated their own contracts following an attack by fans.

Patricio, who helped his country win the European Championship two years ago, agreed a four-year deal with Wolves, who said on Monday the deal is subject to global clearance.

The signing follows Wolves' permanent capture of defender Willy Boly, while Mexican forward Raul Jimenez has joined the club on a season-long loan from Benfica.

However, the Wolves hierarchy have finally got the deal over the line, and the signing of Patricio will be seen by many at the club as a real coup.

Patricio, who is in Portugal's side for the World Cup in Russian Federation, joined Sporting's youth academy in 2000.

Patricio had spent his entire career with Leoes, making his debut in 2006, and amassing 467 appearances for the club across all competitions during his 12 year stint.

The Midlands club comfortably won the Sky Bet Championship last season with the help of a number of Portuguese imports brought in as part of Wolves' close relationship with super agent Jorge Mendes.

Portugal's next match is against Morocco on Wednesday.
