IDF Kills Terrorist Who Sabotaged Gaza Security Fence

According to the IDF Spokesperson's Office, five terrorists attempted to sabotage security infrastructure along the Gaza Strip border, and as a result of an explosion nearby they were all injured.

During the investigation, several homemade bombs were seized, one weighing more than 20 pounds and which was to be operated by a cellular phone, as well as more than 30 pounds of explosive material, raw materials for the production of explosives, weapons and instructions for the manufacture of bombs and explosive materials.

The 24-year-old man's death in northern Gaza followed a more than two-month surge in tensions along the frontier, where Israeli troops have killed at least 125 Palestinians during sometimes violent mass demonstrations.

Faced with global censure over its use of live fire in the fence protests, Israel says troops have been holding off border breaches and responding to gunmen who tried to use civilians as cover for attacks on them. The kites have caused more than 400 fires and destroyed thousands of acres of farmland.

"Anyone who thinks it will be possible to continue sending kites and fires every day is mistaken", Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said on a tour of Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. on Monday.

The attacks targeted two Hamas military sites and a munitions manufacturing site, the military said in a statement, without specifying whether the raids had resulted in casualties. Sirens sounded in outlying Israeli areas and the military said three rockets had been launched toward Israeli territory but one fell short in Gaza.

Some Israeli media outlets dubbed the exchange of fire the "kite war."

Haaretz reported that "senior officials in the defence establishment made it clear to politicians on Sunday that they believe the way to cope with incendiary kites and balloons is to attack Hamas targets and not to harm those launching the flammable objects".

Israeli security forces uncovered an "extraordinarily large and active Hamas infrastructure" operating in the West Bank.
