Grandma charged for transporting grandkids in dog kennels

Watch: US woman arrested after children filmed in car in pet kennels

A USA woman has been arrested after a video emerged of her travelling with her two young children in pet kennels in Memphis.

Cheeks was arrested on Sunday after video emerged showing her releasing two of her grandkids, ages seven and nine, from dog kennels stored in the back of her Ford Explorer.

The 62-year-old has been charged with two counts of Child Endangerment, Memphis Police said in a Facebook post.

Strangely enough, there is little information available on the relations between Cheeks and the children, aged 7 and 8-years-old. Temperatures in the area reached about 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

The viral video, which showed two kennels and another child by the auto, led to an investigation after the Memphis Police Department received a complaint, according to police documents seen by Reuters.

They also said they were hot during the drive while enclosed in the dog kennels, complaining their grandmother did not switch on air conditioning and kept the windows of the vehicle shut.

The bystander, who asked to remain anonymous, sent the video to Memphis Police. "If she did that, then that's out of character for her", neighbor Eugene Richmond said. I only met her like once maybe twice. "It's very hot", said Nikita Blake, Cheeks' neighbor.

"I think she needs some help".

Cheeks, meanwhile, was expected to appear in court on Monday.

Police said the children were OK after the incident.
